Meet the winemakers
Pierre Jéquier, was an architect. He conceived numerous projects in Switzerland (his home country) and later in Africa, in Burkino Faso.
His passion for wine and the desire for a practical profession, close to nature, lead him to become a wine producer. After a long search for a property in the South of France, he fell in love with Foulaquier in 1998.
Certainly the vines were young (8 years old at that point) but on a magnificent ‘terroir’, with a very old stone farmhouse surrounded by Mediterranean ‘garrigue’. He had found the right place, but it was out of his budget. Thanks to the help of three associates, Peter and Ginette Stolt, and Anne-Marie Fallot, Pierre was able to throw himself into the adventure.
This year Mas Foulaquier will celebrate its tenth vintage. There will be candles to mark the occasion, even if there is a constant flow of new ideas from this architect and winemaker, a builder at heart.
Blandine Chauchatjoined the Foulaquier team in 2003. Originally from Paris, she was working as a civil servant, and became passionate about wine as a member of the Assemblée Nationale’s wine club. Gradually her holidays were taken over by harvesting in Cairanne, pruning in Muscadet, interviewing winemakers across France for a book (Portraits de Vignerons – Editor: Le Lou du Lac – Published November 2000 – see the heading ‘Shop’)
In 2000 she made the break. A BTS (HND equivalent) in viticulture and oenology in Mâcon, a young agriculturalist’s business creation course, and she started to set up her own business in Anjou… up until her meeting with Pierre which lead her to sunnier climes.
Our associates participate fully in the life of the property, notably by selling the wines in Switzerland. You will find their contact details in the heading ‘Visit us’ and ‘Our agents worldwide’
