" Terroir "

In the South of France between Nîmes and Montpellier, the high limestone pinnacle of the PIC SAINT LOUP, presents the backdrop for an exceptional landscape. The Pic Saint Loup ‘cru’ is the most northerly in the Coteaux du Languedoc, set amidst the Mediterranean ‘garrigue’ and exposed to the cooler climate of the lower reaches of the Cevennes.

Mas Foulaquier is situated at the northern edge of the designated Pic Saint Loup ‘cru’. The farmhouse overlooks a large plot of 8 hectares of sloping vines, similar to an enclosed Burgundy parcel.

The limestone clay soil is pebbly and has both good filtering capacity due to the presence of stones and limestone fragments, and good water retention thanks to the red clay. The plot slope faces South/Southwest, which means it is extremely early ripening. The wide divergence between daytime and night-time temperatures whilst the grapes are ripening (August /September) is accentuated by the altitude of the vines (200m) and ensures that the wines are extremely refreshing on the palate.

Blandine CHAUCHAT joined the Foulaquier team in 2003, bringing with her 3 hectares of vines in the plot known as LES TONILLIERES in Claret.
This limestone clay ‘terroir’ faces Northeast. This exposure makes the wines very refreshing. A nod to the wine maker’s origins in the Loire!
